Lithuanian Geography Teacher’s Association (LGMA) was established in 1994 and is one of the oldest school teachers associations in Lithuania. During all activity period about 800 teachers had entered this association. About 500 teachers confirm their membership every year. LGMA consists of departments which operate in all Lithuania.
The President of the LGMA is elected every 4 years. Since 1994 the President of the Association is author of many Lithuanian geography textbooks and didactics materials Rytas Šalna.
LGMA activity:
- Newsletter „Geografijos aidai”, published since 1994.
- Organization of all levels Geography olympiads.
- LGMA support to programme teaching curriculum.
- Preparing students for all international olympiads and contests. Lithuanian students participated in three World olympiads: Gdyn, 2004; Brisbane, 2006; Tunisia, 2008. They won 2 silver and 5 bronze medals. Since 2009 Lithuanian students participate in Middle Europe countries olympiads. In 2009 Chorzhov and Bielska Biala, Poland, olympiads 2 silver and 2 bronze medals were won.

- Organization of seminars and workshops for Geography teachers.
